Stellan Skarsgård delivered a playful take on his children’s success and why he doesn't consider them as nepo babies.
In a world where Hollywood is tangled up with nepotism and family legacies, the 74-year-old star offers a refreshingly different perspective.
The Mama Mia star is among the actors whose family members were also in the industry. His eight children, six of whom are in show business.
Skarsgård dismisses the idea that his children are “nepo babies.”
“No,” he told Vulture. However, he gave a clever response and said that it’s the other way around.
“I consider myself a nepo daddy because I get so much goodwill and maybe jobs because of them,” he explained.
The Swedish actor also mentioned that the issue still exists in Hollywood, and even if someone has connections, such as famous parents, they still need talent or skill to secure meaningful roles and succeed in the industry.
“Because nobody would hire you, at least not for anything good, if you’re not good enough,” he noted.
Skarsgård admitted that his fame has caused his youngest son to be unfairly labeled, leaving him to “suffer” from it.
“But my 13-year-old, Kolbjörn, the youngest, suffers from that,” the Dune actor revealed. “When his pals at school call him nepo baby, he gets so sad. He doesn’t have any friends at school. He gets isolated. Cruel kids or cruel and ignorant. They love it on the internet. But it is such a [expletive] thing.”
The teen star joins the upcoming Swedish horror series Blood Cruise and recently went viral after sharing the first look at his character.
Aside from Kolbjörn, whom he shares with his second wife, Megan Everett, Stellan Skarsgård’s other children have also followed him into acting.
