Comedian Andy Richter acknowledged some concerns fans had when he announced he was competing on the current 34th season of Dancing With the Stars.
In an October 2025 interview with TV Insider, Richter and his DWTS partner, Emma Slater, discussed managing to make it to the ABC show's sixth week. While speaking to TV Insider, Richter briefly commented on some social media users voicing their concern that he would have a heart attack due to all the physical exertion on the show.
“I had no idea what that was,” said Richter to the publication.
Slater then theorized that some fans may have misunderstood when Richter said he had more of an open heart following his decision to appear on DWTS.
“That was poetic — not medical,” replied Richter while speaking to TV Insider.
TV Insider reported that Richter already shared a message to a social media user who stated he may experience a heart attack during a pre-recorded DWTS video package.

He said that he initially wanted to turn down the offer because it was "out of his comfort zone," as he was never interested in dancing.
