Fan-Favorite Mobile Game Shutting Down After 7 Years

After seven years, EA is saying goodbye to a beloved cellular game that has seen more than fifty updates and, reportedly, more than 50 million downloads from the Google Play store alone: The Sims Mobile.

Exact statistics about the game are not publicly available, but it was estimated to have brought in over 20 million dollars of revenue in its first few months on app stores and previously reached the top three downloads of the Apple App Store.

The game is in its final months and preparing to officially shut down in the new year, the parent company announced in a recent blog post on EA's official website, revealing that the most recent update would be its last.

The Sims Mobile has already been removed from app stores, meaning no new players will be able to load it up onto their phones, and the servers hosting the game will officially shut down on Jan. 20, 2026.

The team behind the mobile version of the long-running franchise sent their love to the many loyal players of the product, noting, "The Sims Mobile and The Sims community as a whole are full of creativity, kindness, and imagination."

"You’ve amazed us with your stories, builds, and Sims," they added. "We’re proud to have shared this journey with you, and as a token of our appreciation, we’ve prepared a few surprises as we head into TSM’s final chapter."

In order for fans to "make the most of this time" remaining, all players have received unlimited energy, meaning that they will no longer have to wait for time to pass between projects and tasks in order to raise their level and unlock to items. Additionally, two weeks before the game is officially sunset, all content will unlock for all players—meaning that build and character items that were previously locked behind higher levels will be accessible for everyone's use.

"On behalf of the entire Sims Mobile team, thank you for sharing this amazing journey with us," the team concluded. "We hope you enjoy the final update and that these final months allow everyone to finish projects, make memories, and celebrate their Sims."

Another Mobile Game Is Believed To Be on the Way

There are rumors of a new game in the works to replace The Sims Mobile, with an apparent upcoming game called The Sims Lab: Town Stories leaking late last year, though nothing concrete has been released.

Still, fans aren't pleased by the idea, with one taking to X with a scathing response: "Shutting down The Sims Mobile just to replace it with THIS monstrosity is diabolical! You crushed a loyal community, milked it dry and just to then launch a NEW cash grab mobile game is shameful! No one wants Town Stories! Literally no one!"

Meanwhile, on Reddit, one fan was so frustrated by the news they said they "will never give them another $ or play any of their games again."
