The left-arm spinner had a reprieve to Australia batter Matthew Short off Nitish Kumar Reddy's bowling on Thursday, October 23.
Team India scored 264 runs for the loss of 9 wickets after being asked to bat first. Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana provided early breakthroughs for the team. Travis Head and Australia captain Mitchell Marsh failed to make an impact with the bat as the home team was reduced to 54/2 in 12.2 overs.

Axar Patel injured his fingers while fielding at the backward point. The incident took place on the fourth delivery of the 16th over in Australia’s innings
Nitish Kumar Reddy bowled a short delivery outside off stump to Matthew Short, who responded with a powerful slash toward Axar. The ball struck Axar’s left thumb as he attempted the catch.
The deflection allowed the batters to take a run. Following the incident, Axar, who was visibly in pain, had to leave the field to receive treatment for his injured hand.
