Many knew that the actress famously shaved her head for the 1997 movie G.I. Jane, which followed Lieutenant Jordan O'Neil (Moore), the first woman to undergo intense training for the U.S. Navy SEAL program. Now, almost 30 years later, her hair goes down to her waist, drawing attention from fans and headlines alike.
Since then, Moore has rocked many different hair looks, including a bob, bangs and different hair colors. She told PEOPLE in 2022 that when she's not working, she tries "to do as little to it as possible. It's stressful even having someone touch it. If I don't have anywhere to go, I don't put heat on it — I just try to let it do its own thing. And I don't wash it too often."

"I just started to let it grow. And it also kind of coincided with stepping back from work to be with my kids," Moore admitted. Her three daughters, whom she had with ex-husband Bruce Willis, are now in their 30s. "I think probably because I'm also lazy and I don’t like to sit in the chair or have to go and get it done a lot."
It is pretty uncommon for ladies of Moore's age to have this much hair, but that never stopped the actress from growing it out.
"[We often hear] that as women get older, they shouldn’t have long hair. And for some reason, I didn't buy it. I didn't believe it, and it didn’t make sense to me why that had to be the case," Moore continued. "I did notice, particularly women who were going through menopause, that they were...all were kind of cutting their hair in a very almost masculine way, just desexualizing themselves. And so I think there was a combination of this attachment to it, too. Sometimes I think I’ve just willed it."
