ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A 15-year-old is facing charges after Rochester Police say he robbed another teen at gunpoint on Texas Street off Child Street on the city’s northwest side.
The victim told officers he was walking when the suspect stole his backpack around 8:30 p.m. on Monday. An hour later, Rochester Police pulled over a truck on Jones Avenue off North Plymouth Avenue for traffic violations.
RPD says the driver, the only one inside, matched the description of the robbery suspect. Officers also say the victim’s backpack was in the front seat.
According to RPD, the driver took off when they asked him to exit the truck. That led to a brief chase that ended when the car stopped on Campbell Street, just over a mile away. RPD says that, while arresting the driver, they found a loaded handgun in his underwear.
The teen was taken to the Monroe County Children’s Detention Center. He’s charged with first-degree robbery, grand larceny, and criminal possession of a weapon. Police say all of the victim’s belongings were returned.
