The Irondequoit Eagles have demonstrated their scoring ability, achieving 40 or more points in four out of their seven games this season.

“If they try to stop our run, we’re just going to throw it over their head,” quarterback Eric Torres said. “And if they stop the pass, we’re going to run the ball really hard. That’s it. So that’s the good thing about this team, we have options,” said Torres.

Their defense has also been impressive, limiting opponents to just 14 points per game.

“We just focus on four principles—be physical, be great tacklers, swarm to the ball and create turnovers,” senior Cooper Moore said.

The team has gained valuable experience in both the regular season and postseason.

“You can’t take any teams lightly. Last year we lost to Monroe. The year before we lost to Brighton. It’s any man’s game at that point,” senior Sam Thore said.

Despite their regular season success, the Eagles have yet to achieve postseason victory with the current group. However, head coach Dan Fichter brings extensive postseason experience.

“He’s a great guy. He knows a lot about football,” Moore said.

“He’s a great coach. He loves the game,” Thore said.

“Best coach I’ve ever had in my life,” Torres said.

Before coaching, Fichter was a standout player, earning D3 All-American honors and playing professionally. He is also a former Section Five champion.

“Watch me play and then tell me I’m not good enough. To me, that’s a fair shot,” Fichter said while an All-American wide receiver at SUNY Brockport.

“Chemistry. That’s one of the things that this team has. They like each other. They play for each other. The coaches love them. The kids like the coaches. It’s a good atmosphere,” said Fichter.

The Eagles are poised for success with their diverse offense, strong defense, and skilled coaching staff.

“Our coaches say it every day. It’s just fun being out here with these guys,” Fichter said.

Irondequoit will host Spencerport on Friday in the quarterfinal round, aiming for their first Section Five title since 2018.
