The regular season hasn’t even started yet, and Matas Buzelis is already turning heads!
The Chicago Bulls’ second-year forward came into this season with high expectations. While head coach Billy Donovan tried to start things off slowly, it was only a matter of time before Buzelis moved into the starting lineup. He proceeded to look like one of the top rookies from the 2024 draft class, as his versatile two-way impact helped lead Chicago to a winning record over its final 32 games.
With the organization shifting further toward a youth movement, the spotlight has only become brighter on Buzelis. The team clearly views him as a fundamental building block, and they used the preseason to reinforce that. The 21-year-old was at the center of almost everything the team did on the offensive end. Sure, the absence of Coby White left Buzelis even more room to get up shots, but it’s evident that giving him the steering wheel at times is part of the plan in Year 2.
Matas Buzelis averaged 17.6 points on 57.6 percent shooting from the field and 39.3 percent shooting from downtown during his five-game preseason. He found a different way to impress each night, finishing things off with a four-dunk night against the talented Minnesota Timberwolves defense. While it may have only been preseason, Buzelis looked primed for a breakout.
But don’t just take my word for it!
