On Monday (Oct. 20), the pop star reflected on hosting Saturday Night Live for the first time this past weekend. Sharing photos of herself with members of the cast and in some of her costumes, Carpenter wrote on Instagram, “SNL double duty was the least I’ve slept in my life and the best reason to ever not sleep.”
“thank you Lorne [Michaels], the amazing cast, crew, and writers for taking me in with open arms,” she continued.
Though the Grammy winner has appeared on SNL in the past, Saturday (Oct. 18) was her first time hosting an episode. In addition to performing Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 single “Manchild” and “Nobody’s Son” — both of which appear on her Billboard 200-topping album Man’s Best Friend — Carpenter poked fun at her album art controversy in a witty opening monologue, parodied Taylor Swift’s “The Fate of Ophelia” for the show’s latest Domingo sketch and played an annoying tween boy who runs a podcast with his friends.
But while Carpenter’s SNL episode was largely well-received, Rina Sawayama pointed out something she thinks the team should consider in the future. “Big love to Sabrina but fellow artists creative teams … if we are clearly referencing a culture, please can you do so with the research, respect and care it deserves,” she wrote, referencing how dancers performing martial arts during the “Nobody’s Son” performance erroneously wore shoes on top of a traditional Japanese floor mat.
Carpenter is now gearing up to resume her Short n’ Sweet Tour following a four-month break. Her first shows back will take place at PPG Paints Arena on Oct. 23 and 24.
In the comments of her post about SNL, she wrote, “see u in pittsburgh soon.”
