Grambling State’s Tre Bradford and the Tennessee State Tigers were selected on Monday as the Stats Perform HBCU National Player and Team of the Week, respectively, for Week 8 FCS college football games this past weekend.
The weekly football honors lead up to the Stats Perform FCS National Awards Show on Jan. 3 in Nashville, Tennessee. The season-ending awards are in their 39th year.
The Week 8 honorees and honorable mention selections:
HBCU FCS National Player of the Week
Tre Bradford, Grambling State, RB, Grad, 6-0, 225
Bradford was a workhorse with season highs of 25 carries, 123 rushing yards and two touchdowns while sparking Grambling State to a 20-16 SWAC win at Arkansas-Pine Bluff. He scored on a 12-yard run in the second quarter, then provided the game-winning touchdown from 3 yards out with 1:42 to play. Bradford has 120+ rushing yards in back-to-back games.
Honorable Mention: Micah Gay, LB, Tennessee State; RJ Johnson III, QB, Florida A&M
HBCU FCS National Team of the Week
Tennessee State (24-7 win over Howard)
Byron McNair passed for three touchdowns and Tennessee State’s defense allowed just 189 yards in a Homecoming Day win. Linebacker Micah Gay totaled 11 tackles and two interceptions, and coach Reggie Barlow’s OVC-Big South squad ended a five-game losing streak to improve to 2-5.
