Oscar-nominated actress Sigourney Weaver is teasing some information about her role as a New Republic's Adelphi Rangers leader, Colonel Ward, in Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu.
People magazine reported that Weaver briefly discussed shooting the film, which premieres on May 22, 2026, while on stage for the Alien and Beyond panel at New York Comic-Con. During the October 10 panel, Weaver, who famously played Ellen Ripley in the Alien franchise, said she was approached to play Colonel Ward by the director and co-writer of The Mandalorian and Grogu, Jon Favreau.
She soon agreed to get familiar with the Mandalorian series, which stars Pedro Pascalas said Mandalorian, also known as Din Djarin. The actress said she was taken by Pascal's performance as well as his puppet sidekick, Grogu.
"I was, of course, amazed by it and fell in love with it, and Pedro [Pascal] and Grogu," said Weaver on the panel. "Also I love how the Star Wars universe has — it's not trying to pay off each movie with the whole backlog of movies. It's now individual stories set in the same universe."
She also shared that she interacted with Pascal, Grogu, and some other interesting characters during the production of The Mandalorian and Grogu.
"I was only on the set for a few days, but I was surrounded by all kinds of different creatures. I got a drink from someone with a very different kind of head," said Weaver during the interview.
According to People magazine, Weaver shared that the film takes place following The Mandalorian Season 3, which aired in 2023.
