DENVER (KDVR) — The days are getting shorter, and the nights are getting colder as fall takes hold in Colorado, and Denver weather overnight had its coldest night so far this season.
Temperatures at Denver International Airport early Sunday morning reached a low of 32 degrees, just hitting freezing and giving the city its first freeze of fall.
Denver usually sees the first fall of the season around Oct. 7 each year, but this year's fell nearly two weeks later.
"Normally the first freeze of fall, that starts around Oct. 7, Oct. 8; not the case this year," Pinpoint Weather Meteorologist Greg Perez said. "We had to wait another 12 days for the first freeze."
Temperatures in Denver will see a big swing Sunday, according to the Pinpoint Weather forecast, going from the low of 32 degrees to afternoon highs in the mid-70s. After that, Denver will see a cooldown back to the 60s, with lows in the upper 30s and lower 40s.
While this marks the first freeze of the season in Denver, and temperatures this week will even out a little more, the Pinpoint Weather team said the first hard freeze, when temperatures drop to 28 degrees or lower for at least an hour, may not be too far away.
Landscaping experts weigh in on the best time to winterize sprinklers in Colorado"I hope everyone was able to blow out their sprinklers, get all the water out of their hoses, Perez said. "If not, you'll have another opportunity to do so, but certainly going to want to move on that."
