There's a new route that just set the record for world’s longest nonstop flight—and you're going to need all the extra leg room for it.
Beginning in Oct. 2025, Xiamen Air’s 19-hour, 20-minute flight from JFK to China's Fuzhou Changle International Airport will now be the longest flight in the world, beating out the previous record holder, Singapore Airlines’ route from JFK to Singapore Changi Airport, according to Simple Flying.
The small Chinese carrier operated between 2017 and 2020 and returned in 2024, but this is the first time that the block time has been listed this high, earning it the world's longest flight title.

The reason for the extra-long flight time? Xiamen Air does not operate through Russian airspace en route to or from the U.S., so the flight has to take more time to fly around it.
This pattern isn't the norm, however. Other carriers such as Air China, China Eastern and China Southern do fly through Russian airspace at times. Cathay Pacific also flies over Russian airspace to/from the US/Canada, saving precious time in air. Cathay from JFK back to Hong Kong, for example, takes three hours less—16h 25m, while China Southern to Guangzhou is 16h 20m.
And the flight may soon be a popular one. According to booking data for the 12 months to July 2025, 160,000 round-trip passengers flew between the two places, making it more in demand than JFK to/from Guangzhou (98,000) and Beijing (140,000), and almost as much as Shanghai (195,000). In fact, JFK-Fuzhou was Cathay's top US transit market. That may be because many Chinese immigrants are from that area of China. NYC even has Little Fuzhou.

Still, the almost 20-hour flight is a long one, but it's not the only long-haul flight in the skies.
Qantas also operates some of the longest nonstop flights in the air. Some of its longer nonstop flights include Dallas back to Melbourne (17h 40m), Perth-London Heathrow (17h 40m), JFK to Auckland (17h 40m) and Perth-Paris CDG (17h 35m).
United Airlines' nonstop San Francisco to Singapore clocks in at a painful 17h 40m and Houston to Sydney will take you 17h 35m.
Singapore Airlines has a flight back to Changi from Los Angeles that takes 17h 50m and San Francisco (17h 30m.)
Air India used to have longer nonstops as well, but its San Francisco services now stop in Kolkata en route back to Bengaluru and Delhi.
How to Handle a Long Flight
If one of these ultra-long nonstops is in your future, you'll probably want to check your frequent flier status to see if any cabin upgrades are possible, since the extra legroom and a lay-flat bed could come in very handy.
But if you find yourself in economy class for the almost 20-hour flight, it's important to spend the days leading up making time to work out, walk or stretch get blood flow pumping, and make a plan to get up and walk around every few hours or so to improve circulation.
During the flight make sure to stay hydrated and while it's tempting, limit alcohol to avoid sleep disruptions.
Bring a neck pillow, sleep mask and noise-cancelling headphones, and make sure to charge all devices and download all the videos, music and games you may want to play while on the flight.
