The Blackhawks have been playing fairly well to start the season. They’ve been in every game, and have one blowout win on their record. They’re still waiting for Landon Slaggert to return to the lineup, and they’re also still getting some young guys acclimated to full-time life in the NHL.
Slaggert looks like he could be ready as soon as tonight with the Ducks in town, which opened the questions at Saturday’s practice about Blackhawks head coach rolling with seven dressed defensemen and only 11 forwards. Blashill said he’s going to keep that lineup until they feel the younger defensemen — Sam Rinzel and Artyom Levshunov — are more settled.
One of the young guys who is settling into the NHL right now is rookie center Ryan Greene. He was assigned to Rockford… but got called back up because of the Slaggert injury. And he’s dressed in every game since that wild day. Good story here from Ben Pope detailing Greene getting a hotel key he never needed to use in Rockford.
Ryan Greene's Oct. 5th was crazy.“I [had] just gotten to the hotel in Rockford. I hadn’t even unpacked my car or gotten the room key yet. I got the call in the lobby I was going to Florida."Two weeks later, he's still with the Blackhawks. New story: t.co/dNMEyXrTx0
— Ben Pope (@BenPopeCST) October 18, 2025 Jason Dickinson will be a game-time decision when the Blackhawks host the Ducks tonight. He took this heavy hit on Friday night and briefly left the bench. Blashill said he’s day-to-day at this point. We’ll see if Slaggert is back in the lineup tonight as well.Jason Dickinson is back on the bench after briefly heading to the locker room due to this hit: pic.twitter.com/1zuR9Mf88i
— BHF (@BlackhawksFocus) October 18, 2025 The Blackhawks played with their lines at practice on Saturday, moving Tyler Bertuzzi up to the top line with Connor Bedard. Colton Dach moved down to the fourth line with Greene and Sam Lafferty, who has become a press box regular already. The third line of Slaggert with Ryan Donato and Lukas Reichel is fascinating. We’ll see what the Hawks roll out at the morning skate and in the game tonight.#Blackhawks lineup at practice:Bertuzzi-Bedard-BurakovskyTeravainen-Nazar-MikheyevSlaggert-Donato-ReichelDach-Greene-LaffertyVlasic-RinzelGrzelcyk-MurphyKaiser-LevshunovCrevierKnightSöderblomExtra: Anderson (lower body)Out: Foligno (personal reasons) and Dickinson

He was placed on waivers by the Blackhawks on Saturday as well, which could clear the way for him to join the IceHogs in the coming days.Joey Anderson (lower body) is on the ice for practice.
