Chef Carla Hall’s radiant energy lit up the Daytime Emmys red carpet on Friday, October 17 — and with good reason. The former Top Chef finalist and The Chew co-host had plenty to celebrate: her HBO Max series Chasing Flavor took home the trophy for Outstanding Culinary Cultural Series.
“Even though there wasn’t another season, being nominated is such a beautiful and incredible boon because I feel like food connects us through story, history and love — and that’s what that show was about,” Hall told Parade.

When the conversation turned to what’s happening in her own kitchen, Hall’s face lit up again.
“I do cook for myself,” she said. “At home, I have pretty plain meals because I’m like, OK, what’s my protein plan as I age, vegetables. But in baking — I have a baking book coming out next year. My whole thing, my ingredient that I am loving right now, is malted milk powder.”
That nostalgic staple, she said, is endlessly versatile. “Malted milk syrup, malted milk pancakes, malted milk pound cake — malted milk can go in so many things. Oh my God, think brown butter, malted milk powder with chocolate, vanilla or strawberry. Am I making you hungry?”
She even brainstormed on the spot: “I haven’t tried it in cornbread, but I’m having this moment right now — think malted milk bread!”

Her Secret to Staying So Upbeat
Asked how she maintains that trademark positivity, Hall didn’t hesitate.
“Everything that I do, I want to do. I do not do anything that I don’t want to do,” she explained. “It’s not about balance, it’s about choices.”
Her daily routine is surprisingly simple: “I don’t drink coffee, I don’t drink caffeinated tea in the morning — I only drink water. I make sure I get seven hours of sleep every night.”
And perhaps the biggest secret of all: “I really do love life. And you know what else? I really love people. I don’t pretend to like people — I really like people. I’m curious about people; I get to talk to a lot of people.”

What’s Next for Carla Hall
Hall’s schedule is as full as her laugh. “Next Level Baker with Gordon Ramsay and Candace Nelson,” she said of her upcoming FOX competition premiering December 4. “I have Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking coming out in November, Halloween Baking [Championship] is on right now [on Food Network]. I just launched a children’s book, Carla and the Tin Can Cake Party, three days ago. I’m living my best life, truly.”
From red carpets to recipe testing, Hall’s joy for discovery remains infectious. Whether she’s mentoring young bakers or adding a spoonful of malted milk magic, she proves once again that curiosity — and kindness — never go out of style.
