McFarland dominated on the D-line at LSU in the mid-to-late 1990s, and he went on to win 2 Super Bowl championships in the NFL. He knows what football is played like at the highest level, and as an ESPN college football analyst he also knows what falling short looks like.
That’s what upset McFarland on Saturday while he watched his LSU Tigers lose at Vanderbilt, 31-24, suffering their 2nd loss of the season and falling out of contention for a College Football Playoff spot, according to CBS Sports analyst Danny Kanell.
McFarland wasn’t really focused on the Playoff. He was more upset with offensive coordinator Joe Sloan, who is in his 4th season on the Tigers’ coaching staff and his 2nd season as the OC. LSU only had 14 first downs on Saturday, not enough to win a road game in the SEC against another ranked team, and the Tigers were dominated in time of possession, holding the ball for only 23 minutes, 29 seconds.
To social media McFarland went, posting that Sloan is “NOT good at his job. I’ve seen enough.”

It was a long day for the Tigers’ players, for much-criticized head coach Brian Kelly and the coaching staff. It’ll surely be a long flight back from Nashville to Baton Rouge.
