Distance freestyler Grace Alegi has verbally committed to the University of Alabama for the fall of 2027. Alegi is currently a student at Riverview High School in Sarasota, Florida, and trains with the Sarasota Sharks.

Alegi secured four lifetime bests at the 2024 Speedo Winter Junior Championships — East (SCY) in December, including the 200 free (1:52.76), 500 free (4:56.49), and 1650 free (16:57.75). Her 1000 free split during the mile, 10:12.54, also remains a personal best.
Alegi had major success in long course events this year. At the 2025 Futures Championships in Ocala in July, she helped the Sarasota Sharks win the 800 free relay with her split of 2:04.41. The team finished in 8:22.14. Individually, Alegi placed 4th in the 1500 free (16:58.35), 5th in the 800 free (9:00.23), 6th in the 400 free (4:22.20), and 22nd in the 200 free (2:06.39). Her prelim time in the 400 free (4:19.83) remains a lifetime best and qualifies for the U.S. Open.
In June, Alegi competed at the 2025 U.S. National Championships in the 800 free (9:07.82) and 1500 free (17:21.03), placing 36th and 39th, respectively.
Alegi finished 15th in the 1500 free (16:50.95), 18th in the 800 free (8:51.26), and 31st in the 400 free (4:20.59) at the Pro Swim Series in Fort Lauderdale in April. All three were best times.
Alegi was also an Open Water Nationals qualifier in the 5k, 7.5k, and 10k.

With two more years to continue to drop time before arriving on campus, Alegi already has the potential to strengthen Alabama’s distance group. The team’s fastest times last season in the 500 free (4:42.29) and 1650 free (16:09.37) were held by Liberty Williams, who has since graduated.
Camryn Siegers, Faith Gorey, and Emma Young are set to join Alegi on campus in the fall of 2027. Gorey also has the potential to strengthen Alabama’s distance group, with a 500 free time of 4:55.82.
