Jennifer Aniston Shares Shocking Revelation About Mom Ahead of New Project

Jennifer Aniston shared a shocking revelation about her mom, Nancy Dow, while discussing her upcoming role in the TV adaptation of Jennette McCurdy's memoir, I'm Glad My Mom Died.

McCurdy, 33, opened up about her traumatic childhood and abusive relationship with her mother in her 2022 memoir. Following the success of the book, McCurdy's story will be featured in an Apple TV adaptation with Aniston, 56, starring as a fictionalized version of the iCarly alum's mom.

"When it came across my desk as an option, an offer to play this character and work with Jennette and Sharon Horgan and LuckyChap, I was pretty much immediately intrigued and flattered and excited," Aniston told People about the project, which was announced in July. "It's going to be wonderful. It's going to be pretty great to start shooting it."

Aniston went on to praise the memoir as "beautifully written," while she added that McCurdy "is so special."

"The fact that she's the young woman that she is, having lived that life, is nothing short of remarkable," the Friends alum continued of McCurdy.

Not only was she a fan of McCurdy's memoir, but Aniston admitted that she related to the book on a personal level. "We have a lot in common," she said of herself and McCurdy. "We had very similar moms."

While Aniston did not elaborate on how Nancy was similar to McCurdy's mom, Debra, both women have been open about their complicated relationships with their mothers.

In McCurdy's memoir, she claimed that Debra had forced her into acting. The decision led McCurdy to develop an eating disorder, while she also claimed her mom exploited her as a child star along with other forms of abuse.

McCurdy did not release the book until after Debra died in 2013.

Meanwhile, Aniston previously opened up about her relationship with her mother while speaking to The Sunday Telegraph in 2018.

“She was a model and she was all about presentation and what she looked like and what I looked like. I did not come out the model child she’d hoped for," she said of Nancy, who died at the age of 79 in 2016, per People.

Three years earlier, she told The Hollywood Reporter that she grew up in a "household that was destabilized and felt unsafe."

“She was very critical of me. Because she was a model, she was gorgeous, stunning. I wasn’t. I never was," she told the outlet in a 2015 interview. "I honestly still don’t think of myself in that sort of light, which is fine.”

In addition to starring in the TV adaptation of I'm Glad My Mom Died, Aniston is also set to produce the project. The series will be 10 episodes, and McCurdy is set to act as the showrunner.

"so excited + honored that i get to create, write, and showrun this show and work with this incredible group of people," the former child star wrote via Instagram while announcing the news.
