While everyone was busy gushing over Molly Ringwald’s Andie in the 1986 cult classic Pretty in Pink, I was dreaming about becoming Iona, played by the ever-talented Annie Potts. After all, who wouldn’t want to grow up to be a cool adult with their own record store and a closet full of funky clothes? To be fair, everything Potts did in the ’80s was enviable—and today, she’s still looking as fabulous as ever.
Recently, a superfan dressed as Potts’ equally iconic Ghostbusters character, Janine Melnitz, captured the moment they met—and fans were smitten with how incredible Potts looks and how warmly she treated her.
So this just happened ? Finally got to meet the wonderful Annie Potts and show her my cosplay of Janine from Ghostbusters II. She absolutely loved it! She saw me queuing and screamed in her very New Yorker accent “THIS IS VERY GOOD”. I wish I could have posted the whole conversation but she was very impressed by the accuracy even up to the earrings! She took a selfie of us with her own phone ? What Is Annie Potts Up to These Days?
Potts has appeared in or lent her voice to more than 100 projects over her career, most recently starring as the scrappy Connie Tucker in Young Sheldon and its spinoff, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage.
Up next, Potts will star in Best Medicine, the U.S. adaptation of the beloved U.K. medical dramedy Doc Martin, airing on Fox. She’ll play Aunt Joan, a stern but big-hearted woman who runs her own lobster boat in the sleepy coastal town where her cranky nephew, played by Josh Charles, relocates.
