The leaves are doing their thing, and it is beautiful every year. I don’t much care for having to rake them up after the beauty, though.
The Dodgers held down the Brewers once again, allowing just one run on four hits, and winning Game Three of the NLCS 3-1. This time, starter Tyler Glasnow went only 5.2 innings, so maybe that’s a moral victory for the Brewers, who’d otherwise been held almost entirely down by Blake Snell and Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Just a wholly uncompetitive series so far, with the Dodgers now on the doorstep of a sweep. Maybe the Brewers should’ve just given the Cubs a crack at it if they weren’t even going to try … Hmm:They didnt lay an egg in the postseason. They won a generational series. Now in the next series they are losing because they aren't overcoming a great pitching staff to score runs. The MKE pitching has been good. Losing in the playoffs happens to 11 teams per year, not just us. t.co/GYZT8Ctegx
Max Scherzer has moved into fifth place on the all-time postseason strikeout leaderboard 1. Justin Verlander, 2442. Clayton Kershaw, 2133. John Smoltz, 1994. Andy Pettitte, 1835. Max Scherzer, 174 pic.twitter.com/PhiF4R1EP8
— Talkin’ Baseball (@TalkinBaseball_) October 17, 2025 When Max Scherzer doesn’t want to leave a game – which is usually – he does NOT want to leave the game:Max Scherzer made it VERY clear to John Schneider he was not gonna come out of this game pic.twitter.com/Hw3PhJ8stz
— Talkin’ Baseball (@TalkinBaseball_) October 17, 2025 Nestor Cortes’s journey after being traded to the Brewers for Devin Williams has taken yet another turn, as he had to have surgery to repair a tendon, and will be out until at least the All-Star break. Neither burying Shaw nor endorsing Bregman here – only saying that the Cubs have to be open to exploring this path again, because there are only so many ways to upgrade the offense:Should the Cubs ignore free agents like Alex Bregman *because of* Matt Shaw? Eh…not quite. More on that from Ep. 34 of the BN Cubs Podcast.Apple: t.co/8mWPNe6DSVSpotify: t.co/cMFQgBrsuR : t.co/J6BjQMWdmg pic.twitter.com/9mjzVQytDZ
— Bleacher Nation (@BleacherNation) October 16, 2025 lol wut:There's a gap of "close to $250 million" in contract negotations between Tarik Skubal and the Tigers, per @JonHeyman Skubal is a free agent after the 2026 season pic.twitter.com/tDoBq7YXsU
— B/R Walk-Off (@BRWalkoff) October 16, 2025 Turns out, there’s a little more context there. Heyman reports that Skubal could NOW be looking for more than $400 million, while the Tigers offered under $200 million last offseason. So, it’s kinda apples and oranges. Skubal, the best pitcher in baseball together with Paul Skenes, will pitch at age 29 next season and then hit free agency. It’d be interesting to see if he would even consider an extension that wasn’t outrageously large, given that the CBA expires after next season. Who knows what the financial landscape will be after that? Could be a good reason to wait … or I suppose, a good reason to jump.
