Two of the surviving members of KISS are paying tribute to their late bandmate, Ace Frehley.
Following the news that the legendary guitarist died at 74 on Thursday, October 16, Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley shared emotional statements reflecting on their years together and Frehley’s lasting impact on rock music.
“I am devastated by the passing of Ace Frehley. He was an essential and irreplaceable rock soldier during some of the most formative foundational chapters of the band and its history," Stanley and Simmons said in a joint statement to The Hollywood Reporter. "He is and will always be a part of KISS’s legacy. My thoughts are with Jeanette, Monique and all those who loved him, including our fans around the world.”

Frehley, known to fans as “The Spaceman,” was a founding member of KISS and helped define the band’s sound and image throughout the 1970s. His iconic guitar riffs and flamboyant stage presence made him one of rock’s most recognizable figures.
His death came weeks after reports that he had been hospitalized and placed on life support following a fall in his studio in late September that led to a brain bleed.
Frehley’s family confirmed his passing on Thursday.
"We are completely devastated and heartbroken," the family wrote in a press release, per Entertainment Weekly. "In his last moments, we were fortunate enough to have been able to surround him with loving, caring, peaceful words, thoughts, prayers and intentions as he left this earth."

Together, the four original members of KISS – Simmons, Stanley, Criss and Frehley – launched one of the most legendary acts in music history. Their hits, including “Rock and Roll All Nite,” “Detroit Rock City,” and “Shout It Out Loud,” became anthems of the 1970s and solidified their place as rock legends.
Social media was quickly filled with an outpouring of love and support from fans as they mourned the “New York Groove” singer’s death.
“This is beyond words for me on many levels. My condolences to Jeanette, Monique and all the fellow fans,” popular radio personality and friend of Frehley Eddie Trunk wrote via X.

Another fan added, “True legend, definitely the best musician in the band. RIP spaceman!” while a third said, “I saw Ace twice with KISS and once solo when I caught his used guitar pick. The one and ONLY Spaceman was a larger than life character. So many great songs and memories. RIP Space Ace.”
Frehley is survived by his wife Jeanette, his daughter Monique, his brother Charles, along with several nieces and nephews.
