Reynolds began the video sharing, “There was a real excitement to daytime during the 1980’s, which continued into the early 1990’s. The mid 1990’s I kind-of refer to that as our rock star time.”
The actor jokingly explained the extent of their popularity extended far outside of the show and into their real life. “I mean literally we would go places and make appearances in stadiums, there would be 10,000 people. They would line up and you had to have security and cars you really had a very difficult time going out to eat, see a show, or any of that sort of things, it was it was a very special moment.”
Despite the intensity of the fandom, Reynolds is extremely thankful for his experience on the soap, adding, “I’m so grateful to have experienced that. I mean daytime was super-hot in the 1980’s and in the early 90’s and to be part of that was historic and it was fun.”
The actor reflected on how the arrival of super villain Stefano, played by daytime legend Joseph Mascolo, changed everything. Reynolds said, “Our show probably without intending to became part of that 80’s greed is good kind of thing. That was the introduction of Stefano. You know the charming evil man whose existence was for power and money, much like what was going on in the 80’s around the world at that time.”
Reynolds reflected on one of Days of Our Lives trademarks, the supercouple, adding,“We also created the super couples. The super couples defined Days of Our Lives in the 80’s and I think that romance and adventure, that was the time.”
Reynolds shared how the cast was excited to perform throughout these action and adventure storylines, adding, “Most of us were so happy to do our own stuff, we were young and rambunctious and we didn’t mind what we were doing. We’d flip around, and do fight scenes and all kinds of different things it was fun.”
Reflecting on what viewers connected with Days of Our Lives for, the actor shared, “Romance and adventures that defines Days of Our Lives. Always with that family foundation. That was always there, and I think that’s what keeps a lot of our audience with us.”
