Kevin Federline revealed his sons Sean Preston and Jayden James have read some of his upcoming memoir, which includes explosive claims about his ex-wife and their mother, Britney Spears.
“Pieces of it, but, I mean, they know all of this stuff, right?” Federline, 47, told Us Weekly during an exclusive interview on Wednesday, October 15. “I’ve talked to them about many, many things over the course of their teenage years, so, in a nutshell, yes, they know everything that’s in there.”
In You Thought You Knew, which comes out next week, Federline writes that he sat Preston, 20, and Jayden, 19, down when they were 14 and 13, respectively, to share the “truth” about his tumultuous past with Spears.
“I told them everything — from the reasons for our divorce to the details of the conservatorship and its complexities,” he recalls. “It was hard, but it was necessary. They needed to understand that not everything they heard from their mom was accurate. They needed to know that they could ask me anything and I would tell them the truth. Even if it made me look bad.”
Kevin Federline Worries About Britney Spears' 'Survival' Post-Conservatorship
Spears, 43, has repeatedly said she “didn’t know” that she could have requested to terminate her conservatorship, which gave her now-estranged father, Jamie Spears, control of her personal, medical and financial decisions from 2008 until a Los Angeles judge declared it was “no longer required” in 2021.
However, Federline writes that he told Preston and Jayden that Britney “could have petitioned to end it if she had felt ready to take control of her life,” but she chose not to.
“That it lasted for 13 years was a reflection of her struggles,” he claims.

Kevin Federline Responds to Britney Spears' Clapback About His New Book
These days, though, Preston and Jayden are on better terms with Britney and have even gone to visit her, which Federline insisted to Us was always his goal.
“All I really want is her to be able to have a wonderful relationship with her children,” he said. “I want her to be happy, healthy and all of the things. I want nothing but greatness for her.”
When asked whether he worries that his tell-all will reopen old wounds and potentially set back Preston and Jayden’s progress with their mother, Federline told Us, “I mean, I hope that it wouldn’t because this isn’t my children’s book, right? It’s my book. So I hope that it doesn’t. I’m only hoping that it helps this situation.”
Britney took to social media later on Wednesday to defend her bond with her children, writing in part, “I have always pleaded and screamed to have a life with my boys. Relationships with teenage boys [are] complex. I have felt demoralized by this situation and have always asked and almost begged for them to be a part of my life. Sadly, they have always witnessed the lack of respect shown by [their] own father for me.”
