UTICA, N.Y. — Deliberations are underway on Thursday in the trial of three former prison guards charged with murder in the death of Robert Brooks.
Deliberations began on Wednesday after attorneys delivered their closing arguments in Onedia County Court. It took attorneys six days to rest their case in the trial of David Kingsley, Nicholas Kieffer, and Matthew Galliher. News10NBC has a crew in the courthouse and is tracking the latest.

The prosecution told the jury that the guards acted like a gang, while the defense has said the guards were following orders. Bodycam footage shows guards beating Brooks, an inmate and Greece native, in a medical exam room in December at Marcy Correctional Facility. He died in the hospital the next day.
In total, 10 guards were indicted in Brooks’ death, five of whom have pleaded guilty to manslaughter and one to evidence tampering. Five of them pleaded guilty to manslaughter, while one pleaded guilty to evidence tampering. The last guard, Michael Fisher, will go on trial in January on his first-degree manslaughter charge.
