Varun Chakravarthy breaks silence on coffee cup post targeting Mohsin Naqvi after Asia Cup win

Indian spinner Varun Chakravarthy opened up on the viral 'mug' post after triumph in the Asia Cup 2025 final. He revealed how he had planned to celebrate the win with the trophy, but in its absence, he managed to pose with the mug instead.

India managed to win the Asia Cup 2025 trophy after having defeated Pakistan three times in the tournament itself. However, a major controversy erupted when Mohsin Naqvi left with the trophy after the Suryakumar Yadav-led side refused to take the trophy from the hands of the PCB Chief.

After the incident happened, Indian players started trolling the Pakistan players as well as the ACC Chairman Mohsin Naqvi. The Indian skipper moved, and the entire team leaped in joy as they celebrated with an imaginary trophy.

This incident was followed by Varun Chakravarthy, who took to social media to put up a hilarious post of himself on the bed, posing alongside a mug. He went on to reveal that he had planned such a celebration with the trophy and hence, in its absence, he posed with a mug.

"I knew that we were going to win. By the time we won the second match, I knew that if we meet them in the finals we are going to win. So I had planned everything. I had planned I will sleep and take a photo with the cup next to me. But after the match, there was nothing next to me. There was just a coffee cup, so I went ahead with it," he said.

"The Cup can be taken away, but we are champions," remarked Varun Chakravarthy

The clarification came in a recent appearance on 'Breakfast with Champions.' Chakravarthy added that he was always confident that the Men in Blue would eventually win the title, and without the trophy, they remain the champions, as it cannot be changed.

"I knew that we would win all games. We are the number one team in the World. The Cup can be taken away but we are champions."

Varun Chakravarthy, with not many wickets to his name yet, had very economical spells in the shortest format of the game during the Asia Cup and went on to climb the ladder and reach the top spot of the ICC Men's T20I Bowling Rankings.

Varun spoke about his nature as a person

Varun Chakravarthy has been a constant in the Indian team since his return to the T20I side last time around. He has been India's highest wicket-taker in the shortest format since his return to the format. However, he has been known as a very calm and composed character on and off the field.

"I've always been an introvert. I'm not like Arshdeep or Nayar, who are outspoken and can crack jokes. I have a slightly dark humour. After practice, I go to my room, to stay away from cricket, I keep writing. I love writing. It brings out what's within me outside and helps me visualize. By the end, I totally forgot that I was a cricketer and I have a match to play the next day," he said about his nature as a person.
