Is Harry Kane in the Form of His Life?

Ahead of Bayern Munich’s Der Klassiker clash with Borussia Dortmund this weekend, we take a look at the stunning form of striker Harry Kane.

For years, Sir Bobby Charlton’s record of 49 goals for England seemed borderline insurmountable. Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer and Michael Owen all failed to reach it, and it took until Wayne Rooney managed to surpass it in January 2017 for history to be made.

Then, Harry Kane came along and went past Rooney’s 53 England goals in March 2023 with relative ease, and has since accelerated away.

His two goals in the Three Lions’ comfortable 5-0 win in Latvia on Tuesday to seal their place at the 2026 World Cup took him to 76 goals for his country in 110 appearances.

While 49 once seemed like a lot, if you were to suggest now that Kane will get to 100 international goals before he retires, it would be far from ridiculous.

His brace in Riga was the 13th time Kane has scored more than once in a single game for England, surpassing Nat Lofthouse’s previous record of 12.

At 32 years old, Kane is arguably in the form of his life, and that’s quite a claim when you consider he scored 280 goals in 435 games for Tottenham Hotspur before moving to Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023.

After the victory against Latvia, Kane was asked by ITV if that was indeed the case, to which he replied: “I’d say so. The numbers are there.

“But it’s the way I’m feeling on the pitch, the way I’m seeing the passes and the runs, physically I’m in a good place, in a good moment.”

    The numbers certainly are there.

As well as his three goals in three games for England this season, Kane has scored a remarkable 21 goals in his last 15 outings in all competitions for Bayern, going back to the start of the Club World Cup.

Not including the Club World Cup, it’s 18 in 10 games, with 11 goals in six Bundesliga outings. That’s at least six more than anyone else in the German top flight, and at least two more than any other player from Europe’s top 10 leagues.

At his current rate, Kane is on course to score 62 league goals this season, assuming he plays in every game. It’s unlikely, but he does only need another 31 in the remaining 28 games to break Robert Lewandowski’s phenomenal record total of 41 goals in a single Bundesliga season. That was set in 2020-21, breaking a record that had belonged to Gerd Müller for almost 50 years (40 goals in 1971-72).

Since the end of the Club World Cup, Kane has scored in nine of his 10 appearances for Bayern. The only game he didn’t find the net in was their 3-2 Bundesliga win at Augsburg, but he still got two assists.

It’s not a surprise to see Kane is laying goals on for others as well. Beyond being an elite goalscorer, his creativity is also up there with some of the best. Only Union Berlin’s Andrej Ilic and Bayern teammate Luis Díaz (both four) have more than his three assists in the Bundesliga this season, while only Wolfsburg’s Maximilian Arnold (seven) has created more big chances than Kane’s five.

We’re here to discuss Kane’s goals, though, so let’s get back to that because he continues to set unbelievable records.

Just a few weeks ago, his second goal in a win over Werder Bremen took Kane to 100 for Bayern Munich in just 104 games, the fastest anyone has reached that landmark at a single club in Europe’s top five leagues this century. He beat Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid and Erling Haaland at Manchester City (both 105 games).

Kane was unable to get a hat-trick that night against Bremen, which almost made it a rare occasion. He has a stunning nine Bundesliga hat-tricks in just 69 games, an average of one every 7.7 appearances. No other player in Europe’s top five leagues has scored more than four hat-tricks since Kane moved to Germany.

In fact, only six players have ever scored more Bundesliga hat-tricks (since 1963), and all have played at least 259 more games than Kane.

We should mention that what is considered a hat-trick in most countries does not pass muster in Germany. There, three goals must be scored in the same half and be uninterrupted by any other goals, otherwise known as a ‘Lupenreiner Hattrick’. But we’re talking about hat-tricks in the conventional sense – and either way, Kane’s feats are impressive.

He has 73 goals in 69 Bundesliga games for Bayern. That’s more than any other player has scored in any of Europe’s top five leagues since he moved to Germany from Spurs in 2023, ahead of Kylian Mbappé’s 67 goals in 71 Ligue 1 and La Liga games, and 15 more than Haaland has managed in the Premier League in the same number of games.

In all competitions, Kane is still on top, with his 103 goals in 106 games one more than Mbappé (102 goals in 117 games), and comfortably ahead of Haaland (84 goals in 102 games).

As mentioned, even by his own ridiculously high standards, Kane has made a phenomenal start to the 2025-26 season.

His 21 goals have come from just 49 shots, giving him a shot conversion rate of 42.9%. That goes up to 52.4% in the Bundesliga, with his 11 goals coming from a mere 21 attempts. And that’s the thing; Kane isn’t just scoring lots of goals because of a high shot volume. Bayern teammate Michael Olise has actually recorded more than him in the league (22).

Now, there will be people screaming at their screens reading this that Kane’s numbers are being heavily aided by penalties, which isn’t entirely untrue. Four of his 11 Bundesliga goals this season have been from the spot, and he has taken 28 penalties for the Rekordmeister in his two-and-a-bit seasons there. His record has been very impressive, though, scoring 27. Kane’s only miss came in the recent DFB-Pokal win over Wehen Wiesbaden, though he had also scored one earlier in that game.

His remaining seven non-penalty goals in the Bundesliga have come from just 2.73 xG; four players have had more non-penalty shots in the German top flight this season than Kane (17), showing how deadly his finishing has been.

His goal against Eintracht Frankfurt in his last league game before the international break was an example just how in-form Kane is right now. He picked up the ball on the edge of the box and fired it with unerring accuracy across the goalkeeper and into the bottom left corner of the net. The England captain scored a similarly emphatic goal for his country in Latvia, doing so with his ‘weaker’ left foot, again from the edge of the box and low to the goalkeeper’s right.

It’s back to club football now, and Kane will be tasked with helping Bayern maintain their 100% start to the season when they host Borussia Dortmund in Der Klassiker on Saturday, hoping to add to his three goals in four games against BVB for Bayern.

So, there you have it. Harry Kane is a fantastic footballer. Next week, we’ll have something for you explaining that the Pope is indeed catholic, and just what bears are leaving in the woods.
