C.J. Gardner-Johnson Released Again After Feud With Taylor Swift Fans

The Baltimore Ravens have released safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson one week after signing him to their practice squad.

The Ravens are calling it “an amicable mutual decision,” but Swifties just might call it Tayvoodoo.

Gardner-Johnson, 27, notoriously feuded with Taylor Swift’s fans after the Super Bowl when his Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs. Swift, 35, got engaged to Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce in August after two years of dating.

“Should’ve Stayed with that thick s***,” Gardner-Johnson wrote via his Instagram Story after the game alongside a photo of him taunting Kelce, 36. He was referring to Kelce’s ex-girlfriend Kayla Nicole. (Kelce and Nicole, 33, dated for five years before he met Swift. The singer is also believed to have referenced Nicole in her song “Opalite” on her new album, The Life of a Showgirl.)

Gardner-Johnson doubled down on his taunts during the Eagles’ Super Bowl LIX championship parade where he wore a sweatshirt that said “Swifties Can LIX My Balls.”

“I just want to take a moment to thank all the teams I’ve been a part of coaches, teammates, and everyone who’s supported me along the way,” Gardner-Johnson wrote via X on Tuesday, October 14. “Every experience has helped me grow both on and off the field. I’m truly grateful for all the opportunities and memories. Football has always been a big part of who I am, and my passion for the game is still strong. I’m excited to keep working, improving, and continuing to play the sport I love.”

It’s the second time in three weeks that a team has released Gardner-Johnson. When the Houston Texans cut him in September, Swifties everywhere celebrated the apparent act of Tayvoodoo — when someone they believe to have wronged Swift is hit with some karmic retribution.

They were back at it on Tuesday, with one user writing via X, “There were few times that the tayvoodoo worked so much just like with this one here and I think it’s too littleeeee.”

“Tayvoodoo took food out of this fools table in less than a year, omg many will face the same in the coming months,” another chimed in.

Gardner-Johnson first signed with the Ravens on October 7, but the team traded for another safety that same day, making the University of Florida alum expendable. He has 18 interceptions over his seven-year NFL career, including three in 2024 for the Eagles.

In the wake of Gardner-Johnson’s shots at the Swift fandom after the Super Bowl, Swifties also began flooding a restaurant once owned by Gardner-Johnson’s parents, Brian and Del, with negative reviews.

“I have friends who were sending me the screenshots,” he told TMZ in February. “They were going, ‘Oh my God, look at this!’ And the first thing everyone said was, ‘The Swifties have attacked.’”

The restaurant had actually closed the month before, with Brian and Del opening a new restaurant in Cocoa, Florida.

“He get it from his mama,” Del said of her son’s trash-talking. “Everybody knows us. They know me. They know who we are. So, we’re fine. We’re going to be fine regardless of who posts what, says anything. We’ll be fine.”

“We ain’t afraid of no smoke,” Brian added.
