Podcast host Jennifer Welch pressed Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.Y.) over a photo he was in with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying it was "heartbreaking" to see.
“I think the Democratic base feels like there is a disconnect,” the liberal podcaster said in an interview on the “I’ve Had It” podcast released Tuesday. “Like, we hear you, like when you did your 25 hour speech, I was like ‘Go Cory, I love this. That is amazing.’”
“And then, there’s a photo shoot with you with Benjamin Netanyahu, and I was just like, ‘What in the actual f‑‑‑? Like, how can he do that?’ It was heartbreaking. I felt betrayed.”
Booker later stated he has “real problems with Benjamin Netanyahu,” calling actions of his “outrageous.”
“I’m not going to be outside of the room screaming, I want to look him in the eye, like me, Amy Klobuchar and a whole bunch of other people did, and talk to him about humanitarian aid,” Booker said, referring to his Senate colleague from Minnesota.
“And if people want to criticize me for it, then go ahead. But I am leading in the Senate on West Bank crises right now, from their attempts to annex it or illegal settlements. I lead the legislation to sanction the people that are doing that.”
In a post from Senate Minority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) on the social platform X from July, Booker can be seen in a photo with Netanyahu alongside colleagues from both sides of the aisle.
“Hosted a bipartisan meeting with Israeli Prime Minister @netanyahu to discuss bringing American hostages home from Gaza and building off @POTUS’ leadership to restore peace and security in the region,” Thune said in the post.
