When my partner and I moved into our new apartment, the very first thing we did was put together our new couch: the Albany Park Barton Chaise Sectional ($3,570). After a long day of hauling boxes and running up and down stairs, we craved feeling like just one part of our apartment was finished - and 10 minutes later, after removing its pieces from boxes and easily putting it together, we flopped down onto the roomy sofa to soak in a moment of reprieve before all the other unpacking.
To back up a little: we were in dire need of a new couch. We'd had a very stiff, uncomfortable one for years. So when we got the chance to review the Barton Chaise Sectional from a Popsugar-favorite brand like Albany Park, we took it. While other PS editors have tested out the viral, super-deep Kova Sectional and the more midcentury-modern-style Lido Sofa, the Barton Chaise Sectional seems to fall somewhere in the middle: both stylish and also extremely functional (we have a cat, so that was high on our list of priorities).
Sure, we were nervous about never having sat on the couch before getting it delivered to our apartment, but I loved the look of it online, and it was well-reviewed by other customers. The Barton Chaise Sectional features deep seats and a low-profile silhouette. The sofa comes in 38 different color and fabric options, with three different feet options and the choice to have the sectional be left- or right-facing. (I chose the olive performance velvet and walnut feet.) The seat cushions are removable and cleanable, and are hypoallergenic and PFAs-free. After weeks of lounging on this couch, there's not much not to love about it. It's stunning, and the olive performance velvet fabric we chose feels like the right amount of statement-making without overtaking the living room. (P.S.: I love that you can choose from so many variations on the site; it really feels like you're getting a special, customized couch.)
It's also sort of a Goldilocks of couches: a classic enough shape and design to fit into any space, but I appreciate that it also feels updated and trendy. It's also a great mix of plush-ness; we spend our nights sinking into it as we watch "Survivor," and our days sitting upright on it while getting work done.
The material feels high quality without being fussy, and I love knowing that we can always remove the covers and clean them if necessary. A fabric that could stand up to our mischievous cat was also paramount, and our performance velvet has so far done just that.
It's also a great couch for hosting, with plenty of room. We recently had friends over, and four people lounged on the sofa comfortably while other folks stood around. An out-of-town friend also stayed with us for a couple of nights and slept on the sofa and said it was super comfortable.
The assembly, as I noted above, was easy - it took 10 minutes total with two of us. The hardest part was visualizing where each piece should go, but Albany Park also has video tutorials to help out less stubborn purchasers.
Who Albany Park Barton Chaise Sectional Is Best For
This sectional is truly great for anyone who has the space to accommodate it. In a decently-sized living room within a city apartment, it fits beautifully. I'd also highly recommend this sofa in one of the performance fabrics for anyone with pets or kids - it's held up very well against a cat who loves to scratch.
