Brady Campbell from Milford, Ohio, has made a verbal commitment to Indiana University for 2027-28. He wrote on social media:
“I’m honored to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Indiana University! I want to thank Ray Looze, John Long, and the entire coaching staff at Indiana for giving me this incredible opportunity. A huge thank you to my coaches, Ken and Emilie @masonmantarays, for helping shape me into the person I am today, along with my teammates and especially my parents for always supporting me and pushing me to be my best. I’m beyond grateful for everyone who has helped me along the way and I can’t wait to be a part of such an amazing program. Go Hoosiers! ”
Campbell is our #8 recruit on our Way Too Early list of top boys’ swimming recruits in the class of 2027. He joins #9 Blake TeBeest, Andrew Malaj, and Jackson Edwards in the Hoosiers’ class of 2031.
A junior at Milford High School, Campbell swims year-round with Mason Manta Rays. He is one of the top sprinters in the cohort – in both SCY and LCM – and boasts the top 50-yard free time with 19.73. He earned that time, plus PBs of 44.26 in the 100 free and 1:38.14 in the 200 free, at Winter Juniors East last December. In the high school season that followed, the then-sophomore went 19.93 to win the 50 free at the Ohio State High School Division 1 State Championships. He placed 2nd in the 100 fly (PB of 48.50) and split 42.90 on the 4×100 free relay. At the MAKO Senior Championships in March, he hit new lifetime bests in the 500 free (4:43.09), 100 back (49.95), 100 breast (56.03), and 200 breast (2:04.91).
Campbell kicked off long-course season at Indy Sectionals and immediately established PBs in the 50 free (23.24), 200 free (1:52.59), 100 back (59.33), 200 breast (2:29.55), and 100 fly (55.68). He went on to compete at U.S. Nationals, finaling in the 50 free, and wrapped up the summer at Junior Nationals in Irvine, where he won the 50 fly (PB of 23.90) and placed 5th in the 50 free (PB of 22.94) and the 100 free (PB of 50.19).
The Hoosiers had a strong sprint group last year, with 2 ‘A’ finalists, 3 ‘B’ finalists, and 1 ‘C’ finalist in the 50 free. Ten members of the men’s team were faster than 19.6, including seniors/grad students Finn Brooks (18.86), Matt King (18.87), Luke Barr (19.15), Caspar Corbeau (19.26), and Gavin Wight (19.46); junior Owen McDonald (19.56); sophomores Mikkel Lee (19.07), Dylan Smiley (19.21), and Vidar Carlbaum (19.44); and freshman Miroslav Knedla (19.57).
