Reading that headline, you might be thinking a couple things: “Wow, six Gold Glove finalists is a lot!” and “So, let’s see, it’s Dansby Swanson and I guess maybe Michael Busch finally got some respect and … “
But you’d be wrong on that second one! For the first time in years, Dansby Swanson is not a Gold Glove finalist, thanks I assume to a decline in the various metrics. Similarly, Michael Busch is not a finalist, as his metrics took a bit of a step back from last season. We can debate whether those decisions were correct or fair, but that’s what they are.
So if not those two, who are the other six finalists? Well, you know two of them without even thinking. Obviously. But here’s the full slate:

— Rawlings Baseball (@RawlingsSports) October 15, 2025So that’s Matthew Boyd, Carson Kelly, Nico Hoerner, Matt Shaw, Ian Happ, and Pete Crow-Armstrong. Pretty incredible showing, though it was a very strong defensive year for the Cubs.
As far as winning goes, I think you can certainly make an argument for Boyd and Happ, and I believe they’ll have a real shot. I think it’s a lot harder for Kelly and Shaw, because there are some HEAVY favorites at those spots (Patrick Bailey and Ke’Bryan Hayes are star defenders; but hey, shouts to Shaw for becoming a Gold Glove finalist in his rookie season as he converted to third base!). And then you have Hoerner and PCA, each of whom should run away with the thing. They were head and shoulders the best defenders at their positions this year in the NL, and I think the real battle should be between the two of them for the Platinum Glove.
