Gateways Music Fall Festival continues showcasing Black classical musicians

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Gateways Music Fall Festival continues in Rochester. It showcases the depth and history of Black classical artistry, with a number of performances in collaboration with the Eastman School of Music.

Monday night featured a free showcase by Rochester’s young string players in the Young Musicians Institute. Tuesday night featured a piano recital by Eastman alumnus David Berry.

Coming up Wednesday is a performance by the Gateways Chamber Players — performing Coleridge-Taylor, Scriabin, Leon and more — at 7:30 p.m. in the Hatch Recital Hall of Eastman Theatre. And on Thursday, the festival wraps up when Terence Blanchard joins the Gateways Festival Orchestra for “Film Scores Live!” at 7:30 p.m. in Eastman Theatre’s Kodak Hall.

Thursday’s concert is presented in collaboration with yet another festival — the Soundtrax Film Festival, a new movie-music fest that’s running Oct. 16-18 in Rochester.
