Oh, Olive Garden. As their slogan goes, when you're there, you're family, so it makes sense if you and your loved ones would want to spend certain holidays at the fan-fave Italian restaurant. And what sounds more festive than enjoying a glass of chardonnay paired with endless soup, salad, breadsticks and pasta that you didn't have to cook or clean up? Not much!
However, if you had planned to hit up your local Olive Garden on either Thanksgiving or Christmas Day this year, you're going to need to change your plans. The company just announced that they will be closing the doors at all 900 of their locations on both Thanksgiving and Christmas Day this year.

Why Is Olive Garden Closing for Thanksgiving and Christmas Day?
According to Olive Garden's website, all of Olive Garden's locations will be closed on Thanksgiving Day (this year it's on November 27) and Christmas Day to allow their employees to spend time with their family and friends. The restaurant does note that Olive Gardens in Hawaii, Guam and Puerto Rico, as well as those located internationally, may have different holiday hours, so call ahead to get more information if the Olive Garden you plan on visiting is located in one of those locations.
Olive Garden also gave guests a heads up that their restaurants may close early the day before each holiday, depending on the amount of business each restaurant receives. These closures will vary by location and will be up to the "discretion of the management team." For this reason, Olive Garden suggests calling your local Olive Garden ahead of any visit you may want for November 26 or Christmas Eve to confirm your chosen restaurant's closing time on those days.

Doors will reopen at Olive Garden the day after Thanksgiving (November 28) and the day after Christmas (December 26), and the restaurant's hours will operate as normal for the remainder of the season.
Olive Garden isn't the only company that's closing its doors on major holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas. Many other restaurants and retailers—such as Walmart, Target, Best Buy, Costco and Trader Joe's—have taken note of the importance of employee well-being and have also decided to close these days to give their workers time off to celebrate with loved ones.
There are other Italian restaurants that are expected to be open on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day if that's the type of food you're craving. On Thanksgiving, you can most likely visit Bravo! Italian Kitchen, Brio Italian Grill and Buca di Beppo. On Christmas Day, Romano's Macaroni Grill and Brio Italian Grill should also be open.
The holidays will be here before you know it, so taking the time to solidify your dining plans now could help you avoid any disappointment or last-minute changes in the future. It never hurts to call ahead and check with your desired restaurant ahead of a visit to confirm their holiday hours; after all, you don't want to show up and be unable to have your holiday feast!
