NCIS: Origins Star Teases How Season 2 Premiere Reveals Lala’s Fate (Exclusive)

The wait is over! On tonight’s NCIS: Origins Season 2 premiere, the fate of Lala Dominguez (Mariel Molino) will finally be revealed. There’s a four-month time jump when the show returns, and we see that the team is not in great shape without her.

“You won’t have to wait very long [to learn her fate],” Austin Stowell, who plays the young Leroy Jethro Gibbs, promised Parade in an exclusive interview. “It’s top of mind of anybody who was a fan of that show last year. Lala became a beloved character very, very quickly and for very good reason, and there’s a reason that Gibbs cares so much for her. This is somebody that he’s writing about in Alaska 40 years down the line, so this is obviously someone that he cares about very, very deeply.”

In the Season 1 finale, Gibbs and Lala shared an intimate moment in a pool, which revealed their feelings for each other. But then Lala went to see Lara Macy (Claire Berger) to convince her not to report Gibbs for Pedro Hernandez’s death. And she was on her way to tell Gibbs that she had convinced the investigator to drop the case against him when she had crashed her car in order to avoid hitting a young girl in the street.

“The idea of her going through something as tragic and violent as that accident is going to create waves for him,” Stowell continues. “At the end of the day, what we know about Gibbs is that he is incredibly loyal and that he will do anything for his friends and his coworkers, that he stands by them to the end. He is a true Marine, that he fights for the man next to him, and in this case for the woman next to him. This is the story of her.”

In the meantime, Gibbs has met Diane Sterling (Kathleen Kenny), his real estate agent who became his first ex-wife on the mothership, and the two begin dating.

“There is a relationship that grows, and it grows for a reason,” Stowell says. “He sees something in her that he does fall in love with and vice versa. Working with Kathleen Kenny has been such a wonderful experience so far this season. She brings out a different side of Gibbs. Let’s be honest, he’s at one of the darkest moments in his life packing up the house that he lived in with his now deceased wife and child, and she walks in like a storm of happiness and all of a sudden gets this guy to crack a smile. There is something about her that is so gosh darn attractive that he can’t help but fall for her.”
