ATLANTA – The Buffalo Bills are no longer leaders in the AFC East after Monday night’s loss in Atlanta. The Bills lost 24-14 to the Falcons in a game marked by missed chances and injuries to several key Bills players. It was their second loss in a row, with the Bills’ record falling to 4-2.
The Bills struggled on both sides of the ball. Defensively, they couldn’t stop the Falcons’ running game. Offensively, the Bills failed to put together sustained scoring drives, only recording a touchdown on five drives in the second half. Linebacker Terrel Bernard and receiver Joshua Palmer both left the game in the first half and did not return.
GAME RECAP: Bills lose again as Atlanta’s defense shines in second half
“They beat us but the good thing is that it’s a bye week,” Bills left tackle Dion Dawkins said. “We don’t have to win them all. I know it sounds cliche, but we really don’t have to win them all. I like that we have the opportunity to get better. It’s not the end.”
Bills cornerback Taron Johnson said the team needs to regroup during the bye week and find a way to be more consistent.
“Find out what we did wrong and we just got to be more consistent,” Johnson said. “I mean, at the end of the day, I feel like we have the guys in this room. I mean, guys are banged up right now, but guys stepped up today. You know what I’m saying? Especially in that second half. So just being more consistent, that’s the key.”
After the bye week, the Bills will hit the road again to play the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, Oct. 26, at 1 p.m. Then, the Bills will return home to face their rivals, the Kansas City Chiefs, on Sunday, Nov. 2 at 4:25 p.m. That will be a rematch of last year’s AFC Conference Championship.
The Bills have won the division every year since 2020. The New England Patriots are the current leaders of the division because, although they have the same record as the Bills, the Bills fell to the Patriots last week.
