In September, the Transportation Advisory Commission unanimously supported the plan and recommended City Council adoption.
Councilmembers Justin Jones, Rick Cole, Tyron Hampton and Jason Lyon sit on the Municipal Services Committee.
In preparing the plan, city officials found a network of roadways that make up 13% of Pasadena’s roads but experience 80% of the city’s injury collisions. State law allows speed limit reductions to be applied to these roads.
Crash data from 2015 to 2019 was used to identify portions of more than 30 streets that make up that 13%, according to the city.
Members of city staff then reviewed a list of existing road safety construction project and scored the top-20 for public consideration. Through a community advisory committee, additional project were identified and analyzed.
The final list of 15 projects included in the plan include:
-pedestrian safety improvements at intersections on Lake Avenue, Los Robles Avenue, Fair Oaks Avenue and Washington Boulevard;
-pedestrian hybrid beacon signals at non-signalized intersections on Lincoln Avenue, Lake and Washington;
-signal and crossing improvements on Fair Oaks;
-citywide high visibility crosswalks;
-citywide traffic signal preemption for emergency vehicles;
-citywide leading pedestrian intervals and accessible pedestrian signals;
-corridor-wide traffic calming measures on Sunset Avenue;
-corridor-wide bicycle improvements on Washington;
-corridor-wide pedestrian improvements on Colorado Boulevard;
-corridor-wide pedestrian and bicycle improvements on Arroyo Parkway and Marengo Avenue.
Approving the plan will allow the city to pursue the necessary grant funding to implement the planned projects.
