Windsor, University, Eaton slated to host regional softball tournaments

The Colorado High School Activities Association released brackets Monday for this weekend’s regional rounds of the softball postseason.

Numerous local teams will host their regional tournaments, while others will try to score an upset or two on the road.

The top 2 teams in each classification’s eight regional tournaments will play in their respective classification’s state tournament Oct. 24-25 at the Aurora Sports Park.

While teams in Class 3A need to win just their first round game in regionals to secure a spot at state, teams in 4A and 5A need to win twice. In those bigger classifications, the two teams that lose in the first round will square off, and the winner of that game will take on whichever team loses in the regional final with a state berth at stake.

Windsor (21-2) is the top seed of the 32-team 4A postseason. The Wizards will play host to No. 32 Green Mountain (13-10) at a to-be-determined day and time this weekend. The winner faces whichever team emerges from another regional first round game between No. 16 Golden (18-5) and No. 17 Berthoud (14-9).

The winner takes on No. 2 Palmer Ridge (19-4) or No. 31 Pueblo East (11-12) with a state berth on the line.

Northridge (14-9) is the 23rd seed in 4A. The Grizzlies will match up against No. 10 Pueblo County (16-6) at Cheyenne Mountain High School or El Pomar Youth Sports Park in Colorado Springs. The winner advances to the regional final to take on No. 7 Cheyenne Mountain (17-5) or No. 26 Thornton (20-2-1).

University (21-2) is the top seed in 3A. The Bulldogs will play host to No. 32 Englewood (8-11) at a to-be-determined time Saturday at Twin Rivers Park. The winner moves on to the regional final to take on No. 16 Sterling (12-11) or No. 17 The Academy (11-12).
