Nebraska vs Iowa State (Women)

October 11th, 2025 Ames, Iowa – Beyer Pool SCY (25 yards) Results Final Scores: Nebraska 197, Iowa State 103

The Nebraska women continued to pick up early-season momentum against Iowa State Saturday, soundly defeating the Cyclones and taking victory in all but two events.

The Cornhuskers and the Cyclones have clashed every year since 2013, and met on an every-other-year basis before that. Nebraska has dominated Iowa State over that time. The Cyclone’s last victory over Nebraska happened over two decades ago in 2002, and is one of only two victories in the history of the schools’ meetings.

    Meet Recap

Nebraska senior Gena Jorgenson took center stage in Ames, notching three individual event wins. Jorgenson took victory by ten seconds in the 500 free, clocking a time of 4:57.14. While this time is well off Jorgenson’s personal best of 4:39.31, it is two seconds faster than she was against the Cyclones in October last year.

Jorgenson, who is a distance specialist, also contested the 200 free, which she won in a time of 1:51.47. She capped off her meet with a victory in the 400 IM, stopping the clock in 4:26.95. Jorgenson was five seconds off her lifetime best in the 200 free, and 15 seconds away from her personal best in the 400 IM.

Nebraska junior Beatrix Tanko, who is the reigning Hungarian National Champion in the long course 50 fly, also took multiple individual victories. She touched the wall first in the 50 free with a time of 24.03, and earned first in the 100 fly by clocking 56.87.

Like Jorgenson, Tanko was well off her personal bests, despite her winning efforts. She was one-and-a-half seconds off her fastest time in the 50 free, and four seconds away from her lifetime best in the 100 fly.

Virginia Consiglio, a sophomore, was the final Nebraska swimmer to take home more than one individual event. She swept the backstroke events, notching a race-winning time of 53.07 in the 100 and clocking 2:04.57 to take first in the 200.

Consiglio and Tanko also swam in the 200 medley relay, in which the Cornhuskers were right on par with their mark in the event at this meet last season. The team of Consiglio (26.37), Amelia Riggot (29.77), Tanko (24.95), and Natalie Dunaway (23.64) touched the wall first in a time of 1:44.73.

The same can’t be said for the 400 free relay, however, in which Nebraska was a little behind last year’s mark. Tanko (52.38), Giulia Marchi (52.52), Riley Miklos (52.90), and Gena Jorgenson (52.69) stopped the clock in a time of 3:30.49 for the Cornhuskers, which, despite being three seconds slower than their time a year prior, was good enough for victory.

Riley Miklos, a Nebraska sophomore, and Giulia Marchi, a Nebraska senior, each added an individual win to their relay triumphs. Miklos took first in the 1000 free with a time of 10:22.53, and Marchi clocked a winning time of 53.07 in the 100 free, coming within a half-second of her time from this meet last year.

Aurora Zanin, the reigning National Junior College Athletic Association Swimmer of the Year, was the final race winner for the Cornhuskers. The Nebraska sophomore registered a time of 2:04.98 in the 200 fly, earning her the top step of the podium.

While unable to produce a victory in the freestyle, butterfly, and backstroke events, the Cyclones dominated the breaststroke events, registering a 1-2-3 finish in each. Iowa State sophomore Grace Swoboda clocked 1:04.91 to take victory in the 100 breast, and Matilde Geromin, a freshman at Iowa State, produced 2:20.77 to win the 200 breast.

    Looking Forward

Nebraska takes its momentum into a home meet in Lincoln against Kansas on November 7th. The Cyclones return to the pool next Friday, when they will take on Illinois in Ames.
