DENVER (KDVR) — Rescue crews on Sunday night saved a man at the Sugarmill near Longmont after he fell two stories inside the abandoned historic property.
The 23-year-old man at about 11 p.m. Sunday called 911 reporting that he fell a "significant distance" and was injured inside the Sugarmill in the 11900 block of Sugarmill Road, according to a press release from the Boulder County Sheriff's Office.
Boulder County Sheriff's Office, Longmont Police Department, Mountain View Fire Rescue and Boulder Rural Fire Rescue crews responded and found him using a drone, discovering he had fallen about two stories.
Fire crews used a saw to cut through a wall to get to him. He had severe face and limb injuries when crews got to him and was taken to a hospital.
Several other people also on the property were given trespassing citations.
"This is a stark reminder that it is illegal and dangerous to trespass on the Sugarmill property and violators will be held accountable," the sheriff's office said.
The Sugarmill opened in 1903 as the Great Western Sugar Co. and closed in the 1970s, according to the city of Longmont's website.
