Captain Kermit “Kip” Thomas Hart, who oversees the Tuscaloosa Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division, was arrested Sunday morning. He has been charged with domestic violence strangulation, a Class B felony.
When asked for comment, TPD spokesperson Stephanie Taylor deferred to the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.
“There was a domestic disturbance where law enforcement was contacted, and TPD contacted us due to the fact that it was one of their employees,” said Sgt. Josh Hastings of TCSO. “They contacted our department, and that’s when we got involved.”
Hastings said Hart was placed in Tuscaloosa County Jail with a 24-hour hold, as required by Alabama law, with a $5,000 bond.
