Penn State Fires James Franklin
After the UCLA loss, I think everyone saw this coming. But I think most assumed Franklin would coach out the rest of the season. But a 22-21 loss on homecoming to Northwestern was the final straw for Penn State athletic director Pat Kraft.
Due to his buyout clause, Franklin will be paid a whopping $49 million by Penn State. It’s the second-largest college football buyout ever, second to Jimbo Fisher’s astonishing $76 million payout when he was fired by Texas A&M a few years ago. Imagine being paid $49 million just to go away!
I’ll have more tomorrow as I dive into the weekend in college football a bit more. But wow, what a shocking fall from grace for a program that had national championship hopes to start the season.
