Weld RE-4 District A: Raymond Ruth aims to support student success

Name: Raymond Ruth

Political/community experience: Currently serves on Weld RE-4 School Board and as treasurer.

    1. Why do you want to be on the school board? School boards are an essential element of government that is overlooked by most outside of election time but carries significant impact. I view this as an opportunity to give back to my community by making a positive impact on education by influencing policies and initiatives that affect students and families and supporting student success by helping to create the vision, mission and strategic goals for the district. There is also the opportunity to ensure fiscal responsibility for one of the largest employers in our community and be a financial steward for our tax dollars. Most importantly, it is an opportunity to ensure that the collective values of the community are reflected and maintained through lasting policy.

    2. How do you think the district should handle growth? I believe the only way to manage growth is to change the way we look at schools in our community. We are a growing district, and having elementary schools with 600 students, middle schools with 900 students and high schools with 1,200 students may no longer be feasible with the cost of construction and ongoing operational costs. We should consider specialty schools focused on technical education for workforce preparation and potentially expanding school sizes while balancing a small-town community feel and cost savings.

    3. What role do you think AI should play in schools? We need to position our district as early adopters of Artificial Intelligence. AI is already integrated into the modern workplace, and it will define the next generation of leaders. By quickly taking control of this technology, we can not only achieve expectations but exceed them. By taking control early we can utilize AI to create more personalized and effective learning pathways and adapt content, fill gaps and allow more personalized pacing for students. We can make the work of our teachers more efficient so they can spend more time on students and less time on administrative tasks.
