Team India off-spinner Washington Sundar was unhappy with the on-field umpire decisions on Day 3 (Sunday, October 12) of the second and final Test match against the West Indies. Usually calm on the field, Sundar was seen engaging in an animated discussion with Richard Illingworth regarding umpire calls.
The young cricketer failed to pick up any wickets in the West Indies' first innings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Washington bagged his first wicket by dismissing Alick Athanaze with a peach of a delivery just before the tea break on the third day’s play. However, a few LBW calls went in John Campbell’s favour.
Washington Sundar Frustrated After Two LBW Calls Went Against Him
Washington Sundar was frustrated after two close LBW calls against John Campbell went against him due to the umpire’s call during the Delhi Test.
In the 19th over, Sundar trapped Campbell on the pad while the batter lunged forward to defend. Replays showed the ball hit the pad first and was going on to hit the middle stump, but the impact was deemed just outside off and an umpire’s call saved the batter.
A few overs later, Sundar once again had Campbell trapped in front, the ball-tracking again showing the impact marginally outside off. As Campbell survived for the second time, Sundar exchanged words with on-field umpire Richard Illingworth, who responded with a calm smile.
