Charles Oliveira secured an emphatic victory on his return to the UFC on Saturday night.
Oliveira, who was making a special homecoming in his native Brazil for the UFC Fight Night event, submitted fellow lightweight contender Mateusz Gamrot in the second round of the main event.
It was a majestic watch for hardcore MMA fans in round one as both men went back and forth on the canvas, testing the elite level of grappling that they possess.
Gamrot was first to shoot for the takedown early in the fight, but Oliveira quickly took control and came close to submitting his Polish opponent more than once.
In the second, Oliveira sensed a finish was close and put his foot on the gas, backing Gamrot back up to the cage.
Oliveira then dragged his Polish opponent to the canvas, and the crowd inside Rio’s Farmasi Arena exploded.
