Penn State has now fallen to 3-3 after a third consecutive loss thanks to a 22-21 defeat vs. visiting Northwestern on Saturday.
To make matters even worse, Penn State head coach James Franklin announced in his postgame press conference that senior quarterback Drew Allar is out for the season after suffering an injury late in the loss.
With Penn State trailing 22-21, Allar got hurt on a fourth quarterback scramble after getting hit by Northwestern defenders and had to be helped off the field from the training staff. This injury signals the end of Allar’s career since he has no eligibility remaining.
“Drew will be done for the year,” Franklin said. “The reason I turned and looked is I do not release that information until I clear it with the kid and the family. I had talked to Drew but I had not heard back from the family before I came in here.”

Allar finished with 137 yards, no touchdowns, and an interception. Allar has spent his entire career with the Nittany Lions. His best statistical season came in 2024 when he passed for 3,327 yards and 24 touchdowns.
We’ll see how the Nittany Lions respond to this latest dose of adversity. Next up for Penn State is a road matchup at Iowa on Oct. 18 (7 p.m. ET/Peacock).
