Beloved actress Diane Keaton suddenly died on Oct. 11, stunning fans and leaving many pondering her legacy. While the actress continued working up until her death, she also had three different projects in development that she never got to complete.
People know Keaton from her many memorable roles over the years, such as Annie Hall, Something's Gotta Give, and The Family Stone, among others, but fans were always excited to see what she had coming out next.
Keaton Was Set to Star in a Heartwarming Drama With Andy Garcia
At the time of her death, Keaton had signed on to three different films, according to IMDb, none of which had started filming yet. The first project was the movie Artist in Residence, co-starring Andy Garcia and Josh Hutcherson.
According to Protagonist Pictures' description of the film, Keaton was cast as the character Toni Beckworth, an "eccentric female artist" who Garcia's character, a powerful real estate developer, is trying to kick out of her longtime home in New York City.
While fighting the effort to evict her, Beckworth becomes friends and allies with Max, the son of Garcia's character, to be played by Hutcherson. The story also features a female reporter who hasn't been cast yet.
Screen Daily reported that Keaton, Garcia and Hutcherson signed on to the project back in 2022, but since then, there have been no updates about the film, and it's still listed as pre-production on IMDb. As it is, it's unclear if the movie will ever make it to production.

The story was set to focus on long-married filmmakers, played by Keaton and Gere, who are casting two young actors, played by Miranda and Lively, to portray them in their younger years in a film project. But while the filmmakers are trying to put together a movie about their love, their current relationship is falling apart.
When Variety first reported the news, the publication stated that production was set for the next spring. Considering the project is still listed as pre-production on IMDb, it's unclear what happened and whether the movie is still in development at all.

The Late Actress Was Cast in a Survival Thriller
Lastly, Keaton had an unexpected role coming up in a thriller film called Constance, written by Maria Alexandria Beech. The exciting news was reported by Screen Daily in May 2024, with production originally planned for August of the same year.
Maya Amsellem of film financing company WestEnd Films described the movie as "a gripping Hitchcockian thriller." Mark Pellington, who was set to direct, praised Keaton's talent while talking about her taking on the lead role, saying, "Diane Keaton is a brave and fearless world-class actor who we will see in a way we never have before."
"As she brings the character of Constance to life, she will embody the spirit of survival, warm intelligence and wit inherent in our film," he went on. Screen Daily described Keaton's role as "a woman who, stifled by her protective children, engineers a day on her own which goes horribly wrong."
Despite reported plans to film in August of last year, production didn't appear to happen, as the movie is still listed as pre-production and in development on IMDb and other sites. It's unlikely that fans will ever get to see Keaton in this unexpected role.
