Christian musician Forrest Frank recently announced he would no longer accept awards for his music — and now Jelly Roll is weighing in on the controversial decision.
In a video posted to TikTok Monday, Oct. 6, the singer addressed his absence from the Gospel Music Association’s Dove Awards and explained why he no longer felt comfortable attending awards shows.
"As Christians, it’s hard to know where the line in the sand is between being in the world and not of the world," Frank said. "I’m convicted, personally, that a line that I can draw is that I will not receive a trophy for something that is from Jesus and for Jesus. And I was wrestling with this last year. I even said that onstage at the Dove Awards. I said, 'I’m still struggling with the concept of seeing this award, but all glory to Jesus, every name will fade away, including mine, except for one name.'"
"I feel a conviction to go even a step further and say, 'I don’t know if I even want to step on the stage; I don’t know if I want to step in the room.' I have decided to take a stance of non-participation. I will not be attending the Doves or the Grammys," he continued. "I hope to be an example to the youth that the trophy is our salvation. The trophy is that my name is listed in the book of life, and I get to have eternal life. What good is a piece of metal going to do compared to that?"

Following the decision, Frank was questioned by Christians who found it hypocritical to reject awards for his music, but still profit off of it. One of those people was Jelly Roll, who recently dabbled in Christian music with the Brandon Lake collaboration "Hard Fought Hallelujah."
"This is an interesting take - I digi it, how do you think this compares as profiting from the same music," Jelly Roll wrote in a comment under one of Frank's Instagram posts. "I love that you said “I don’t want to get a trophy for something that’s from Jesus for Jesus" which is awesome - but also make MILLIONS of dollars doing that same thing that is From Jesus for Jesus."
He added another comment under the post, however, that was more critical of the Christian star.
"Won’t receive trophy for something from Jesus for Jesus but will take the profits from something from Jesus for Jesus. Maybe I'm missing something here lol."

In the replies, fans of Frank's came to his defense.
"Wow, your true colors are really showing through with that comment," wrote one fan to Jelly Roll. "Yet @jellyroll615 claims to speak the truth of Jesus while with @brandonlake but then has Eminem on stage and has a whole new way of talking....." said another.
Despite his absence, Frank was nominated for six 2025 Dove Awards. He won two of the awards, including New Artist of the Year.
Jelly Roll was also nominated for "Hard Fought Hallelujah," ultimately losing to That's My King" by CeCe Winans.
