Jensen Ackles' Countdown is no more.
On Oct. 10, Prime Video revealed that it was canceling two freshman shows. In addition to Countdown, the Daniel Dae Kim series Butterfly also got the ax, Deadline first reported.
For fans of the shows, the decision is disappointing, considering that both shows saw a good amount of success, with Countdown remaining in Prime Video’s U.S. Top 10, at the last spot, more than a month after its Season 1 finale.
As Deadline reported, both shows also broke into Nielsen Top 10 for Streaming Originals, with Countdown at number 8 and Butterfly at number 6.
As for what contributed to the ultimate decision to nix Countdown, Deadline states it "came down to total global viewership."
In addition to the Supernatural alum, the cast included Eric Dane, Jessica Camacho, Violett Beane, Milo Ventimiglia, and Elliot Knight.
The 13-episode series, which released episodes weekly instead of in bulk, focused on Ackles' LAPD detective Mark Meachum, who is recruited to a secret task force along with undercover agents from across ll branches of law enforcement to investigate the murder of a officer with the Department of Homeland Security.
Naturally, fans did not respond well to the news, slamming the decision and voicing their outrage.

"countdown is the best show ever I’m so sad and upset about this like why would you cancel it?" one wrote, as another echoed, "I'm so sad. Countdown has been in the top 10 worldwide... WHY ???"
"WHAAAATTTTT HOW COULD YOU ???" another expressed, with someone else stating, "Jensen Ackles and Daniel Dae Kim deserve better ?."
Another wasn't pleased that Countdown was left on a "huge cliffhanger," informing Prime Video that it's a "bad look," with another emphasizing, "Leaving Countdown on that cliffhanger should be illegal."
"Seriously?! That’s insane," "For a show that was constantly top ten, this makes NO sense. @primevideoca ? MAKE IT MAKE SENSE" and "Countdown was a great show with great potential" comments also poured in.
Ackles isn't going anywhere anytime soon as Amazon MGM Studios continues its partnership with the actor through a first-look deal with his company, Chaos Machine, which he runs with his wife and One Tree Hill alum Danneel Ackles. Fans will be able to catch him in Prime Video's upcoming The Boys spinoff, Vought Rising.
And maybe there's a silver lining here, and Ackles will now have more time in his schedule to turn his guest-starring role on Tracker into a more permanent position.
In recent months, Prime Video has renewed We Were Liars and Overcompensating, while canceling Motorheads, which also caused a bit of uproar among fans.
