ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A man accused of a deadly stabbing at a gas station on Portland Avenue was in court on Friday morning for an arraignment.
Antonio McKnight answered to his second-degree murder charge in Monroe County Court. He’s accused of stabbing Laverne Singletary, 59, in the chest at least once with a screwdriver the morning of Monday, Sept. 22. Singletary died at the hospital. Rochester Police arrested McKnight on the same day.
The judge set McKnight’s bail at $1 million, said Assistant District Attorney Jonathan Jirik. He said the DA’s office has been in contact with the family.
“To be able to speak with them and understand the victim and who that person was and the life that was lost is important to us as we move toward justice,” he said.
McKnight will be in court next on Nov. 24 for a motions argument.
