Tre Jones Stands Out, Josh Giddey Struggles, Nothing But Love From Lonzo Ball, and Other Bulls Bullets

The “undefeated Chicago Bulls” has a nice ring to it! If only the games counted!

The Chicago Bulls continued to show flashes of a vibrant offense in their second preseason game of the year. While they may have only finished the night shooting 43.9 percent, it was hard not to be encouraged by their pace and ball movement. The team assisted on 32 of their 43 made field goal, which led to a well-balanced effort that pushed six players into double figures. If I had to name a player of the game, I’d probably go with Tre Jones. The recently re-signed guard was all over the court and gave the Cavaliers serious problems on both ends. He finished the night with 10 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals in only 23 minutes of action! Oh, and he also went 4-5 from the field and a perfect 2-2 from behind the arc. We all know what he can do with the ball in his hands. Jones fits extremely well into this uptempo offense and continues to be one of the most efficient facilitators in the NBA. He is excellent at limiting his turnovers and locating open teammates. However, what impressed me most yesterday was what he was able to do off the ball. Jones started alongside Giddey with Kevin Huerter ruled out, and he looked shockingly comfortable in this role. He moved extremely well in space, consistently cutting hard to the rim or filling holes along the perimeter. The constant movement from Jones led to a handful of easy buckets for his teammates, as well as some quick relay passes. Here’s one good example …

Great ball movement. Great cut. This offense is going to be fun.( @chicagobulls) pic.twitter.com/7MqvhxrnAw

    — Bleacher Nation Bulls (@BN_Bulls) October 10, 2025 Zach Collins has also made his presence felt over these first two games. Starting in place of Nikola Vucevic (rest) against the Cavs’ formidable frontcourt duo of Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley, Collins looked unfazed. He had 13 points with 8 rebounds in 23 minutes on 5-7 shooting from the field. This comes after a double-digit shooting in Game 1, where he shot an even better 7-8 from the floor. Throw in the fact that he splashed a couple of triples last night, and it sure feels like he has locked up the primary backup role heading into this year. Poor Jalen Smith. Speaking of Collins, he is one reason why the team has looked better on the offensive glass. The Chicago Bulls have won the OREB battle in each of their first two preseason games after finishing last year with the third-worst OREB%, per NBA Stats. Overall, they have now outscored the Cavaliers 37-22 in second-chance points over the last two games. That feels encouraging! Zach Collins of the Chicago Bulls – © David Banks-Imagn Images Head coach Billy Donovan gave Josh Giddey considerably more run last night, and it led to mixed results. While he dished 6 assists and grabbed 7 rebounds, he shot 5-13 from the field and committed 3 turnovers. The shot profile looked more like the first half of last season than the second, meaning he settled for too many off-balance running layups and floaters. To be sure, a match-up with Mobley and Allen is about as tough as it gets, so I’m not going to read too much into it. But I’d like to see him putting even more emphasis on getting all the way to the rim in the coming games. By the way, Josh Giddey is now ONLY 23 years old! Happy birthday to the $100 million man!

    — NBA (@NBA) October 10, 2025 Lonzo Ball got a warm welcome back at the UC. As weird as it sounds that a player who suited up for 70 career games with the franchise got a tribute video, I’m actually glad the Chicago Bulls did it. Ball has spoken extremely highly of the organization and their willingness to stand by him during a career and life-altering time. These two will always have a lot of love for one another. twitter.com/chicagobulls/status/1976489430891258365 Matas Buzelis got some advice from a franchise legend … So Cool: Matas Buzelis Said He Reached Out to Derrick Rose for Advice THE CUBS STAYED ALIVE! Michael has everything you need to know about the do-or-die matchup set for tomorrow. My sister is actually getting married tomorrow, so tuning in could be tough to pull off. But, fear not, I’ll find some way to put an absolutely awful beverage on the line again! I do NOT recommend the Chicago Clap!

    — Elias Schuster (@Schuster_Elias) October 10, 2025 The Blackhawks played a thriller in their second game of the season, but came up short. You still have to be somewhat encouraged by this start, right? REMINDER: BN Bears watch party is set for Monday night in Chicago! It’s totally free, but you can guarantee a spot by RSVPing now. We’ll have free drinks flowing. Who knows, maybe I’ll have to mix something nasty with Malort because the Cubs also win Game 1 of the NLCS!
